There is absolutely nothing in Entebbe airport, literally 1 coffee
shop and a few gift shops. Its like most things in Uganda, “a work in progress”
as they are building a new airport and given that they don’t have a
international airline (so all the flights are from African countries) there isn’t
much need.
Our flight left 20 minutes early whereas the previous plane
to Nairobi was over an hour late leaving. Lisa had seat 18c and I had 17c both
were aisle seats except Lisa had the emergency exit row, so we swapped so I could
stretch out my knee. I sat next to a guy who was from Uganda, but was lecturing
in HR in Mombasa for the week and the previous week was the guest speaker in
Canada for a HR conference and the week after he was giving a talk in the US on
HR recruitment
When we landed we did the usual checking through customs,
yellow fever, Ebola temperature check etc. Surprisingly its all pretty relaxed,
and easy to get through the airport. We had arranged a car to pick us up from
the airport and take us to the Weston Hotel, however because we arrived 20
minutes early he wasn’t there yet, so we basically just waited around outside until
he arrived.
There are a lot more cars in Kenya than there are in Uganda,
but the condition of them is not that great.
When we got to the Weston Hotel it really looked impressive,
with a grand marble foyer, however once we got to our room we soon discovered
it was just a façade. Our room had a sort of renovation job done on it, but for
a room that we were paying about $150US for it was pretty bad, with the bathroom
fittings needing updating.
After sorting our stuff out in our room we headed to the
pool area for some lunch, I had literally walked 4 paces from my door when I slipped
again on the wet floor in the hall way, fortunately I caught
myself on some railing. So back on went the knee brace and I hobbled to the
pool area.
We ordered lunch but it took just over an hour to arrive,
which meant I was not only in pain but I was now very hangry, having said that
the food was really nice. We ordered room service for dinner which took over an
hour to arrive as well.
We packed our 15kg worth of luggage, (mine was 12Kg of cameras) then off to bed.
